Day Out At Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Today as part of my wonderful course I went to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which was nice as I’ve been before as I live near it so felt like coming home.
I always find it interesting going to the park as I always find something new and fascinating. The four photo’s are just my particular favourites of today. There is of course the Henry Moore sculptures that are always there but are still beautiful.
The first picture is Aeneas Wilders Untitled #155. What fascinated me about this piece is that it is all free standing, its not glued or nailed together so one slight knock and it all goes down. Apparently took 200 hours to complete and 10,000 pieces of wood. Today they were knocking it down, would like to have stayed and seen how they did that. Its all about renewal and the process of construction (and eventual destruction) and it certainly effects the viewer, made me feel dizzy walking round.
The 2nd and 3rd pieces are by Jaume Plensa. They are both quite visually surreal when seen in person. In the Midst of Dreams looks both solid and fragile at the same time. The light in the room is white although my photo makes it look green (sorry) The head all have words on them reflecting the inner thoughts (mostly to do with inner turmoil and stresses) which coincides with the inner illuminations to a great effect. The Alabaster Heads I found really interesting, they look to me like projections, they are quite visually challenging as you’re not quite sure what you’re looking at. The elongation adds to this. Also the smoothness of their features juxtaposes with the rough natural stone around and behind the heads.
The final image is Héros de Lumière (Hero of Light) by Igor Mitoraj, I was instantly struck by the beauty of the piece. His work is influenced by classical and Renaissance sculpture, and the ideals of classical beauty. It stands out from the rest of the park as its a stark white piece mixed in with the greens of the country side and bronze sculptures.
Anyway I think I’ve bored everyone enough, hope some people found it interesting :)

Newly Discovered Da Vinci - Salvator Mundi
It has been announced after 2 years of secrecy and careful examination that the painting that was in a private gallery is a genuine Da Vinci. Once thought to be by a pupil or a later copy has been proved to be by the genius that is Leonardo Da Vinci. The painting is one in a very small list by the artist, a find of the century as the chances of finding one is very very rare indeed. It is to be shown in the up coming Da Vinci exhibition in the National Gallery, London (9 November 2011 - February 2012).
Personally I can see the Da Vinci traits in the piece. The piercing gaze, the delicate features of the face and hands and the intricate ringlets of the hair.

So Much To See….
Hello tumblr’s,
The other day on my day off I thought I’ll have a hunt round tumblr and see if I can find anything new that looks interesting and I managed to find about 20 something blogs and consequently started following them, but this gave me 2 new problems:
- They are pretty darn awesome and I want to reblog everything, but have to make do with liking just the ones that stand out
- It now takes me even longer to read tumblr
